J. Thomas Vaughan, PhD

Dr. Vaughan is Director of the Columbia Magnetic Resonance Research Center and Professor of Biomedical Engineering and Radiology at Columbia University. He received a PhD in Biomedical Engineering from University of Alabama at Birmingham and a B.S. in Biology and a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from Auburn University. Prior to joining the faculty at Columbia University in 2016, Tommy was Professor of Radiology, Biomedical Engineering, and Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Minnesota where he held the Quist-Henline Chair in Biomedical Research. Minnesota recruited him from Boston where he was Assistant Professor of Radiology at Harvard Medical School and was Assistant in Physics and Director Engineering at the MGH NMR (Martinos) Center. He holds 56 patents related to the science and engineering of magnetic resonance imaging. He is a Fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), Fellow of the American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering (AIMBE), Fellow of the International Society for Magnetic Resonance in Medicine (ISMRM), Senior Member of the Radiological Society of North America, Member Biomedical Engineering Society (BMES) and is recorded in 150 academic articles.
